Since coming to Abaco, my love for dogs has grown. I’ve started volunteering at the dog shelter here. We are currently fundraising to build a safer and better shelter for our pups.
The shelter is “A sanctuary for stray and abandoned dogs in the Abacos, Bahamas that’s improving the lives of the Potcakes through spay, neuter, rescue, & adoption efforts”. A ‘Potcake’ is the Bahamian way of saying just a mix of all breeds, and we like to call them ‘Royal’ cause whats better than being able to brag to everyone your amazing pup is from the Bahamas!
Over the past year, our volunteers have really started to prioritize leash training dogs. This ensures that dogs are more comfortable on car rides, plane rides, and any pit stops in between as we try to help them reach their fur-ever home. We often have fundraisers and adoption events as well in Marsh Harbour and the surrounding Cays to help bring awareness to these amazing, furry best friends.
